Levi Johnston

Hi all,
I saw an episode of 16 and Pregnant when one of the young mom’s legally removed her baby’s father’s last name from his birth certificate without the father knowing. I guess it made sense since he wasn’t in the picture anymore– but he still had visitation. And, (just as an example–)Then I find out today that Bristol Palin has legally changed her little boy’s last name from Johnston to Palin….but it’s reported he still pays 50 in child support AND has visitation. So how is it legal for a mother to change her child’s name when he is still in the picture (No, I am NOT in favor of Levi Johnston or deadbeat dads hahaha Just curious)
And another example is that a dear friend of mine has visitation of his little daughter and very prompt on his child support payments sometimes giving more than he should. But the mother is now seeing a new guy who wants to adopt the little girl and apparently the papers are going through with or without the father’s consent.
Again, how is any of this legal?
This isn’t for me! LOL I was just curious! It just made no sense to me but I didn’t think about primary custody and such.
